Fun Facts About Electric Cars

Mercedes-Benz EV Charging

Do you want to see what all the hubbub is about electric cars? Do you want to take a chance on something that is great for driving and the planet? Electric vehicles are becoming prominent around the world as many car manufacturers release new electric cars and vehicles. Many shoppers around Aurora and Markham have taken an active interest in the electric vehicle industry. Yet, not many drivers know the facts about electric cars.

Mercedes-Benz Newmarket in Newmarket has been dealing with electric vehicles for some time. Below, we’ve put together some fun facts about electric cars, or vehicles as they’re called too.

The First EV Was Built in 1884

London inventor Thomas Park, the man in charge of the metropolis overhead tramways electrification, helped design and build the first electric vehicle. His goal was to see if he could transform the auto world, then largely relegated to specific groups and individuals.

Throughout the 20th century multiple makers in America, Europe, and Japan experimented with electric cars and other vehicles to test the waters. Like Park before them, these individuals paved the way for the current waves sweeping markets and dealerships around the world.

EVs Include Cars, Transit Buses, Trucks, & More!

In terms of facts about electric cars, they’re not just cars anymore. Not only will you see sedans and SUV body styles, there’s more. You can find electric buses, pizza delivery chains, and heavy-duty zero-emissions trucks all over the place. These electric trucks offer economic savings, often proving cheaper to fuel and operate than diesel trucks.

Charge Your Vehicle at Home, Work, or the Store

A lot of shoppers worry about buying plug-in hybrid vehicles, often because they’re concerned there’s not enough charging stations. Not only are more charging stations being built, you can turn your garage into an at-home charging station. Soon, you can charge it at work, the grocery store, the mall, or any other locale. Having an electric vehicle doesn’t limit you to just staying and home and ordering takeout because the car isn’t fully powered up yet.

There’s Five Categories of Electric Vehicles

Many people know battery electric vehicles, plugin-in, and hybrid vehicles, there’s five categories of electric vehicles. Among those available:

  1. Battery EVs run entirely on electric motors and batteries. They’re recharged from a power grid and their mileage range is 100-200 per charge.
  2. Plug-In Hybrids use rechargeable batteries, electric motors, and internal combustion engines. The mileage range on these vehicles via the electric mode is 30-40 miles per charge.
  3. Hybrid EVs will use small electric batteries and internal combustion engines. Their batteries are charged by engines or through something called regenerative braking.
  4. Extended-Range EVs will have rechargeable batteries and internal combustion engines. Their batteries are charged by engines or power grids.
  5. Neighborhood EVs utilize batteries that are recharged from a 120-volt grid. They can reach a maximum speed of 30 mph.
